60th Birthday Celebration

On the evening of Wednesday 9th March we celebrated Martin’s 60th birthday. We’d booked the upstairs room at the Old Queen’s Head in Islington, for drinks, a light supper and live music in the relaxed faded grandeur of this intimate London venue.

First on stage early evening we had folk duo Rosie Carson and Kevin Dempsey who had previously impressed us at the Green Note last year. With three albums, a generation and the Atlantic between them, they are regulars at folk clubs and festivals around the UK and Europe.

Rosie is from Cincinnati and Kevin from Coventry and they perform on both sides of the Atlantic.

You can see them on YouTube (performing on a different occasion):

Later on in the evening there was contemporary jazz from Bouche, an exciting band who’ve previously supported Van Morrison and who we enjoyed at Cambridge Folk Festival.

They  recently released this single/video, the first track from their new album due to be released early April. The video features Rebekah Bouche and actor Tancred Newbury:

Find some headphones or play through a good sound system or you’ll miss the double bass line.
